About the Course
North European Shamanism — Introduction Course
This course is an introduction to working with the forces of nature within the Northern European tradition.
Shamanism, in this context, is not about belief or abstract ideas. It is about learning how to perceive and work with the natural powers that exist in the land, your surroundings, and within yourself.
Every place has its own character and its own forces. The aim of this course is to begin developing a direct connection to these.
What You Will Do
You will be given simple, practical exercises designed to help you connect with your environment.
These are not complicated techniques. The focus is on direct experience—learning to notice, feel, and gradually work with the forces present in the land around you.
The goal is to establish a foundation, not to overload you with theory.
Preparing for Soulwork
An important part of this path is what is traditionally called soulwork—working with your own inner faculties in a structured way.
Before more advanced practices, this requires preparation.
In this course, you will begin that through:
- Dreamwork
- Breathing exercises
- Meditation
These are used as tools to start exploring your own inner perception in a controlled and practical way.
Working with Spirits and Ancestors
You will also be introduced to basic methods for:
- Prayer
- Contact with ancestors
- Communication with spirits
These are presented as practices to be worked with over time, not as beliefs to adopt.
Seidr and the Use of Voice (Galdr)
This course is based on Northern European traditions, particularly those associated with the old Germanic tribes and the Sámi people.
A central practice is Seidr, a form of shamanic work focused on perception and interaction with non-physical forces.
An important element within this is Galdr—the use of the voice as a tool.
You will be introduced to how the voice can be used in practice, along with simple examples to begin working with.
Building the Foundation
You will also be introduced to key terminology used in later courses. The aim here is simply familiarity, so that you are prepared for more structured work going forward.
This course is not designed to be complex. It is designed to give you a stable starting point.
What Comes Next
In the following courses, the work expands into:
- The Runes of the Elder Futhark
- Yggdrasil and the Nine Worlds
- The Norns, Fylgja, Hamingja, and related concepts
- Techniques for travelling between worlds
- Creation of power objects
This introduction ensures you are prepared for that step.
Access
You will also be able to join the private North European Shamanism discussion group, where you can ask questions and share your experiences as you work through the material.

George Mensink
My name is George Mensink, Soul Man, Shaman and Sound Therapist. During my life I have discovered the power of sound and rhythm and I have learned to work with them. I like to use these powers to help heal the soul of man. This healing can be done through relaxation and this healing can be done through the therapeutic use of drums, singing bowls and singing.
I received the title Soul Man from Linda Wormhoudt. In the year before her death, I had the honor of following some training with her. For me, these courses were the culmination of years of study and experience and that is why I dare to wear this title with pride.
My learning path was one of personal experiences, life lessons, theoretical study and practical experimentation. I have also had the honor to meet beautiful and wise teachers and mentors on my way, who have helped me further on my way into the wonderful world of the spiritual, philosophical and magical.
On this path I have followed courses in the visual world of the Tarot, the Chakras, SRT (spiritual response therapy), Santaria, Winti and Wicca. Once I was also ordained as a witch. These were special training moments, some went deep, others were more to get acquainted.
The knowledge of the Runes has come to me over the years and has formed for me into a magical instrument where sound and form come together. Runes have healing and strengthening powers, which are deeply connected to the energy of our lands, ancestors and gods. They are powerful symbols that I like to use and give workshops in.
Through my work as an Intensive Care Nurse, I have also learned to guide and coach people through the deepest moments in their lives. As a result, I have gained deep experience in end-of-life care and bereavement.
As an experimental Sound Artist I have been able to practice and practice my creativity enormously during the many performances I have been able to give in various countries in Europe, so I have learned to put down what I feel or think in sound and design.
As a Shaman, I bring all of the above together. This allows me to do my work the way I do. My goal in life is to bring peace and tranquility between people and in people. The body is more than just physical. There is also a spiritual factor in it. This spiritual factor is often forgotten and it is my job as a Shaman to give this spiritual factor the attention it needs.
